The vegetable tanning process
(As opposed to toxic chrome and formic acid chemical tanning)
Vegetable tanning is environmentally friendly - leather products that have been vegetable tanned can be safely recycled and leather against skin does not contaminate the body with toxic chemicals.
Vegetable tanning is an age-old tradition but it is a slow tanning process - most tanneries using this method require very skilled craftspeople to produce and dye this leather.
Vegetable tanning takes a lot longer to tan leather than chemical tanning.
Due to natural tannins used, vegetable-tanned leathers are each unique and have their own nature - they are not the same for their entire life but they change continuously for the better, developing a patina with use and age.
The colours that vegetable tanning produces are rich and warm leather tones that are completely natural.
